MARIANNA, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - After more than a year of construction, the newly renovated Marianna Health and Rehab Center is up and serving.
"We got the notice on August 30th that we could move in and we ran like children on Christmas morning down the ramp and occupied our new space immediately," Marianna Health & Rehab Administrator Melinda Gay said.
Speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy are all available.
The brand-new therapy gym includes brand-new equipment like a treadmill and a wall-mounted pulley system.
"We see such a change in patients," Rehab Director Susan Ramin said. "They smile and they want their pictures made and they want to send it to their families and it's just unbelievable."
The Assisted Daily Living suite gives patients the chance to fold towels and wash dishes; normal activities we often take for granted. Patients can even practice getting in and out of a car, right in the middle of the therapy gym.
The add-on includes seven new private rooms, bringing the total number of private rooms to 32. Each private suite includes a bathroom and flat screen television.
"When you're coming for short-term rehab, you just want to be able to focus on your goals and only your needs and so we're able to offer these beautiful new private suites to the community," Gay said. "There's a high demand for them."
While the renovated center is just a building, the people inside are dedicated to strenghthening not just muscles and motor skills, but strengthening lives.
"We have residents who maybe didn't participate in therapy before who now are seeing the new equipment and the new space with the beautiful natural light," Gay said."They're coming down and saying, 'I want to work on that equipment', and 'I want to try that out,' so they're working hard and enjoying it."
A ribbon cutting for the newly renovated center will be held October 3rd at 4:00 p.m.
