UPDATE: Marianna shooting suspect turns himself in to police

MARIANNA, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - UPDATE: 4:20 p.m.

The Marianna Police Department has announced that the man suspected of shooting and killing a Marianna man has turned himself in.

Police tell us Ja’Drian La'Quin Gilbert turned himself in and was then taken the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await his first court appearance.

UPDATE 7:50 p.m.

The Marianna Police department has released more information on an active homicide investigation.

Police say they responded to a home in the 4100 block of Old Cottondale Road Saturday. There they found Gregory Barnett Jr. dead from an apparent gunshot wound, lying in the yard.

Investigators say they have an arrest warrant for an open count of murder for the suspect - Ja’Drian Gilbert. Police say people should not try to contact Gilbert because he is considered armed and dangerous.

According to Marianna Police Chief, Hayes Baggett, police officers are investigating a homicide along Old Cottondale Road.

He said police received a call around 10:45 Saturday morning.

Chief Baggett told us there is only one victim, but he would not give any identifying features.

He said they are speaking with persons of interest, but they do not have anyone in custody.

They are working on the scene with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement's Crime Lab.
