PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Spring is in the air and some Panama City locals and contestants are welcoming the season with a classic tradition.
This year marks the 52nd annual Azalea Trail pageant for Panama City.
Sunday afternoon at the Martin Theatre downtown, around 20 contestants dressed in their Old South Sunday best for the preliminary judging.
NewsChannel 7's Neysa Wilkins also served as emcee.
Contestants are judged on several categories, but event organizers want people to know that it is not your average pageant.
Bobbie Massey, the Director and Chairman of Azalea Trail, said, "This is not a beauty pageant. This is all around. It doesn't matter if you've got glasses, braces, freckles, or anything, it is not a beauty pageant."
The top five will be chosen this week and the winner will be crowned next Sunday.
