Marvel of Flight gives bird's eye view

DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - If you've ever been curious about aviation and flying, then you may want to head out to the DeFuniak Springs Municipal Airport for the 7th Annual Marvel of Flight show.

"We have military planes as you can see, there are formation planes," Pilot David Mars said.

"We're going to have Heuy helicopters doing rides and stuff of that nature," Defuniak Airport line service tech Aloysious Robinson said.

Pilots and aviation experts from all over come together to spread what they know and love about being in the air.

"We're all in the same fraternity, brotherhood of aviators and it's just a great time to come together and celebrate the mystery of flight. The marvel of flight," Mars said.

"Just kind of get the public out here to get a general sense of general aviation," Robinson said

"It's just a lot of fun talking about your airplane," Mars said.

Mars flies a 1929 Travel Air and said it's one of his joys in life to share his passion with anyone interested.

"This is my 7th year to be here and I travel the country and in this by-plane. I sleep under the wing and I sell rides. I'm a barn stormer, it's a very simple existence," Mars explains.

Mars said it brings him so much joy to see the excitement and curiosity in people when they come face-to-face with the planes.

"We just had three school buses of kids out here and we let them climb on the planes and answer questions about them. And we just try to make them aware of aviation," Mars said.

"We're going to have close to anywhere from three to 10,000 people out here," Robinson said.

"It's the people you meet. To tell you the truth, it's not the airplanes, it's not where you go, but it's the wonderful people you get to meet," Mars said.

The event will also have a car show, a barbecue cookout, as well as many more activities for the family to enjoy.
