PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - According to the Bay County Film Commissioner, Bay County's television and film production numbers are on the rise.
Nineteen TV shows, six commercials and five music videos were filmed in Bay County last year.
"We're very very popular with HGTV, with the Travel Channel, with all the DIY Networks, Animal Planet is loving us," Bay County Film Commissioner Julie Gordon said.
Among those networks are new networks who are also choosing to film their shows in our area.
"HGTV is one of our big main stays and it actually has other networks that are spinning off of it and new shows and Panama City Beach has been chosen to do some of those pilots as well," Gordon said.
Many people are excited for the fame, but tourism officials are focused on the economic affect.
"When they select us as a destination, they bring in multiple people and entire crews to the destination and then on top of it. When our potential visitors see these wonderful shows, it peaks their interest in Panama City Beach and so that's wonderful public relations that we absolutely could not pay for," Tourist Development Council Marketing Vice President, Jayna Leach said.
While TV shows attracting a younger demographic are in the works, another renovation show is also being created.
"We are in the process of doing a new renovation show kind of like Flip or Flop or Fixer Upper and they're going to do one of those for just the Gulf Coast," Gordon said.
Gordon continues to say, "We've used properties all the way from Mexico Beach to Southport. We shoot at Inlet Beach, all ends of Bay County, back and forth, and the good thing about Bay County is that it's such a diverse shooting area as far as film. It's very very rich in locations."
Gordon also said she's looking for people to cast in upcoming shows this summer. Contact the Bay County Film Commissioner for more information.
