Mosley headed to 6A state title game in baseball

A group of fans show their support for Mosley High School before the Dolphins' semifinal game against Barron Collier in the 6A state baseball playoffs.

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WJHG/WECP)- Perhaps the third time will be a charm for Mosley High School. In 2013 and 2015, it played in the state title game vs. Archbishop McCarthy, losing both times. Now the 'fins get another shot.

Mosley moved on to the state title game thanks to a 12-2 run-rule shortened victory over Barron Collier on Wednesday at jetBlue Park in Ft. Myers.

The Dolphins jumped on BC early in the bottom of the first, thanks to hits from Justin Kelly and Michael Cullen. After two players were hit by a pitch plating a run,

Justin Yeager hit a 2-run single to put Mosley up 3-0. The Dolphins would add another run on a Gunner Lee hit to right to go up 4-0 after 1.

BC added 2 in the top of the 2nd, but Mosley responded with an RBI single from Brendan Fox to go up 5-2. Michael Cullen scored when RJ Yeager beat out a grounder, then a 2-out RBI from Garrett Breland plated a run and after 2 it was Mosley 7 BC 2.

Mosley loaded the bases in the bottom of the 3rd and an errant throw from BC's shortstop sailed over the catcher's head which allowed the Dolphins to score two and go up 9-2.

Mosley would add a two-run homer from JJ Bleday in the 4th and Breland would hit the walk-off single in the 5th to clinch the game for Mosley 12-2.

Game time for Mosley in the state title game is 3:05 pm Central on Thursday. Archbishop McCarthy beat North Marion handily in its semifinal game.

So it's Mosley vs. Archbishop McCarthy for the 3rd time in 4 years for the state title.
