JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - According to Florida Highway Patrol, one motorcyclist is in critical condition after crashing in Jackson County Saturday morning.
Officials said Earl Sampson, 71, was wearing his helmet when he crashed on U.S. 231 near Estelle Street.
FHP officials said he was heading south on U.S. 231, about 500 feet north of Estelle Street.
They said Sampson failed to negotiate a right curve and traveled off the roadway and onto the grass median.
According to FHP, after entering the grass median, he collided with a culvert and became airborne.
The motorcycle rotated counter clockwise and overturned.
Officials said Sampson separated from the motorcycle, with the motorcycle coming to rest in the second north travel lane and Sampson on the east shoulder of the roadway.
