Okaloosa County Sheriff's officials investigating pedestrian death

DESTIN, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, officials are investigating the death of a pedestrian who was reportedly hit by a car while crossing Highway 98 in Destin around 8:30 Friday night.

Officials said George Rebert, 47, was was struck near the intersection of Indian Bayou Trail by a female driver heading west.

Rebert was reportedly taken to the Destin Emergency Room where he was pronounced dead.

Officials said the driver remained on scene to assist deputies with their investigation.

Westbound lanes of Highway 98 in that area were closed during that time.

OCSO officials said this is the second traffic related pedestrian fatality on Highway 98 in Destin in the past three weeks.

They said a Pensacola man, Alfred Trimble Jr., 41, was struck by a vehicle while crossing Highway 98 in February. He died at the scene.
