UPDATE: Panama City man dies in Gulf County wreck

GULF COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - UPDATE: April 19, 2017 2:30 pm--
The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the victim in the single car crash as Garry Trogdon, 77, of Panama City. Investigators say the 1995 Toyota Tundra he was driving veered off the road for some reason and hit a tree.

A single car wreck in Gulf County has killed one person and shut down a major east-west artery between Gulf and Bay counties.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, it happened Wednesday morning near the intersection of Highway 22 and Yellow Jacket Road just east of the Gulf/Bay County line. FHP was dispatched at 10:48 am Eastern Daylight Time according to online records.

Sources tell WJHG/WECP that a car ran off the road and hit a tree. A news release with the victim's name and hometown is expected to be released Wednesday afternoon.

For now, Highway 22 is closed in the area near the wreck while FHP conducts its investigation.
UPDATE: 11:39 am CDT-- The road is open to traffic.
