Overpass bridge damaged after wreck on I-10

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - According to the Florida Department of Transportation, there was damage to a overpass bridge in Okaloosa County after a construction dump truck's bed hit it.

Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol tell us around 2 a.m. Friday a construction dump truck was traveling Interstate 10 eastbound with the bed up. They say the bed got stuck to the side of the Wilkerson Bluff Road overpass bridge and detached from the truck.

I-10 was closed for hours and vehicles were diverted to the Holt exit. Troopers tell us the westbound traffic was not affected.

The Florida Department of Transportation says they sent a crew out to the scene. We're told by a spokes person there is a beam damaged on the overpass bridge.

According to the FDOT spokesperson, there will be restrictions on the overpass. The spokesperson tells us the northbound lanes of Wilkerson Bluff Road on the overpass will be closed. FDOT will put up temporary signals and signs to guide traffic in the area. Both northbound and southbound traffic will have to travel on the southbound lanes.

The spokesperson tells us crews will be out there Monday to look at the overpass again and decide what the next step is in the process of fixing the beam.
