PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The doors are open at the new Cracker Barrel on 23rd Street in Panama City and it's safe to say locals are excited.

"I'm really excited," Panama City local, Dakota Dangerfield said.

"We are so excited to have the Cracker Barrel here," Panama City local, Cathy Crider said.

"I've been waiting for this for so long," Local, Alexis Duke said.

Some say it's the food they love.

"I actually got the recipe from their cook to do the brown beans and ugh, they're awesome," Local, Gerry Chlebanowski said.

Others say it's the friendly service and country store that sealed the deal.

"It's just a great place, the food is always good. The service is good and friendly and we just enjoy eating here," Crider said.

"The food's fantastic and everyone's so nice," Duke said.

Many say having a Cracker Barrel in our area was a long time coming.

"We think this is the best thing that has happened in Panama City in a long time," Crider said.

"It's going to make it really nice to not have to drive all the way to Destin or Dothan to find a Cracker Barrel to eat at. I'll probably be eating here for lunch a lot," Local, Denver Dangerfield said.

The store held a ribbon cutting event Friday and officially opened to the public Monday.

Officials say the chain hired 190 employees at this location.
