Scam alert: Florida Public Utlities scam

JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The Jackson County Sheriff's Office wants to warn people about a scam reported in the area.

They say a local reported a call from a person who claimed to be an employee of Florida Public Utilities. They say that person claimed the victim had not paid their electric bill and if they didn't send money, the power would be cut that day.

Deputies say the caller will ask for your banking information or ask you to go and get a money gram to send the money.

Again, this is a scam and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office says do not send money. If you get one of these calls, report it to the sheriff's office.
