DEFUNAIK SPRINGS, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The city of DeFuniak Springs is on the hot seat.
The State Attorney's Office is filing a preliminary investigation against the City of DeFuniak Springs after receiving complaints regarding the way the city has filed paperwork over the past two years.
NewsChannel 7 spoke to Assistant State Attorney Clifton Drake, who said it's still in the early stages, but at this point, they know that the city wasn't filing the paperwork in a timely manner.
Because of this, the state has withheld sales tax money reaching to the amount of $220,000.
Drake said this will be a lengthy investigation as they go through the process of looking through documents and interviewing witnesses.
