LYNN HAVEN, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A visitor to our waterways was stranded earlier this week but is now in good hands.
According to officials with Gulf World Marine Institute, they got word of a stranded manatee on Thursday in Deer Point Dam in Lynn Haven.
With Florida Fish and Wildlife officials, Gulf World responded to the scene on Friday and found the manatee showing symptoms of cold stress - which can happen if they're in water temperatures below 68 degrees for an extended period of time.
Fish and Wildlife, The Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge, the University of Florida and Gulf World worked together to rescue the animal.
It has since been taken to the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa for rehabilitation.
