Subway to get rid of $5 footlongs

NBC - Subway's $5 footlongs may soon exit the menu. The company's CEO told USA Today that Subway stores won't be required to offer the five-dollar deal any longer.

However, franchisees can still sell the classic deal if they choose to. The five-dollar footlongs were brought back to Subway's menu last year, causing uproar from franchisees who complained of slim margins.

The sandwich chain is said to have some new things in the works, including testing paninis at some California stores.
