The Golden Apple goes to Lyndsey Myers

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - This week's Golden Apple winner is a third grade teacher who enjoys a good adventure. Congratulations to Lyndsey Myers at Southport Elementary School.

When it comes to impressing third graders, it's hard to beat Mrs. Myers. We asked her students what their favorite thing is about here and one student, Arty, said "she swam with sharks."

Yes that's that right, Mrs. Myers swam with sharks.

"I just like to go out and explore and share it with them," explained Mrs. Myers. "Because then it drives them to want to do stuff like that too."

It's Myers job to prepare her third graders for something potentially more intimidating than swimming with sharks, state testing."

"This is the first year they take FSA and it's really scary for them," said Myers. "It's the unknown and so just to build them up and show them that they can do this is a really cool thing."

Preparing for testing is hard work, but Myers says it's worth it for "those lightbulb moments when they finally understand it."

One reason for Myers success with her students, is her ability to relate to them.

"She's is a lot like me," said Anna, one of Myers' students. "I can't think of a lot of ways because there's a lot of ways that she's like me."

"I hope that when they look back, they always know that I love them," said Myers smiling.
