Tunnell not seeking re-election next term

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - After more than 40 years of service in Bay County, Commissioner Guy Tunnell has announced he will not seek re-election next term.

Tunnell served as Lynn Haven Police Chief and Bay County Sheriff, among other positions.

He currently serves as Bay County District Four Commissioner but says he's decided it's time to step away from public service and spend some quality time with his wife and family.

"As I've said before, the good Lord blessed me in spite of me in so many ways and my wife and I need some time for us, you know, to get out of the bubble, get away from the spotlight and just enjoy family and friends and opportunities," Tunnell said.

The next election is not until November, so he does have about eight months to go before he officially calls it quits.
