Update: More details revealed in officer-involved shooting

DESTIN, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - UPDATE 2/17/17 AT 9:20 A.M.

Thursday night Okaloosa Sheriff's Office received a call from Nashville Police regarding Randy Carl Patton, 30, of Antioch,Tennessee.

Nashville PD told OCSO, Patton had texted a picture of himself with a handgun to his wife, saying he was going to kill himself.

Two deputies found Patton's car in the parking lot of the Days Inn off HWY 98. As the deputies were approaching, Patton came out of a room and initially cooperated to commands.

Patton then raised a gun towards the deputies who defended themselves and shot Patton multiple times. Medical staffers say Patton was trying to get deputies to kill him.

A 60-year old bystander walked out of her room at the time and was shot in the leg; she is being treated at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.

Patton will face charges for resisting an officer with violence and assault on a law enforcement officer.

As part of procedure, the deputies will be temporarily relieved of duties, with pay, pending the results of an investigation.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting at a Destin motel Thursday night.

Deputies say it happened around 7 p.m. at the Days Inn on Highway 98.

They tell us the armed suspect was taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center for treatment.

A second person, who was nearby at the time of the confrontation, was shot in the leg and is undergoing treatment for her injury.

No deputies were hurt.

An investigation is underway and additional details will be released as they become available.
