WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Traffic issues throughout Walton County are a constant problem, but Tuesday, county commissioners agreed to help create a solution in the north part of the county.
Florida Representative, Brad Drake spoke to commissioners about building a connector road from Highway 331 to County Road 280-A in DeFuniak Springs.
During the last legislative session, lawmakers set aside $1.5 million to connect the two roads, which Drake said would create a traffic release allowing people to access Highway 331 without having to drive through town.
"Well, it does three things. One: it provides public safety. It would create quicker access to the hospital on Highway 331. It also would allow for economic development and then there is a convenience factor that exists for the residents that live in about five different communities," said Drake.
The Florida Department of Transportation also authorized a $1.5 million grant to be applied to this project.
"We think today was a good day for economic development and public safety for Walton County and DeFuniak Springs," Drake added.
