Arnold set to host its 13th annual Visit Panama City Beach Marlins Christmas Classic

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla (WJHG/WECP) - Back closer to home and into the gym we go, the gym at Arnold to be specific. Coach Britton and the Marlins once again hosting a three day holiday hoops tournament, which start Wednesday.

"This is the 13th annual Visit Panama City Beach Marlins Christmas Classic," Robert Britton, Arnold basketball coach said. "They're 16 teams, covering five different states. We've got them coming from as far away as Virginia, Louisiana, Tennessee, Kentucky, and of course the state of Florida. We like our tournament because we like to see different styles of play. In Panama City you're gonna get a fast, rugged style, versus Kentucky you get a slow down, bluegrass style. And we're definitely looking forward to seeing what Virginia has for us this year."

The games haven't started, but they are just the culmination of a lot of work.

"Man it takes months and months of planning," Britton said. "We've been booked since April of 2017. And then we're usually here from 6 a.m. until about 11 o'clock at night, each day, and we just grind all day. It's the camraderie between the teams, and the opportunity to meet new people, new staffs. See new basketball and to be able to take new ideas and fresh things from other people."

Thiis is a tournament that will work towards a champion on both the girls and boys side of things.

The games start at 8:40 Wednesday morning, with the Lady Marlins playing Warren County out of Tennessee at 2:55, the Arnold boys face South Plaquemines out of Louisiana at 7:25.

Bay's annual Barnstorm Classic begins Thursday.
