Blountstown wins 1A-3 title in tiebreaker, St. Joe finishes as runner up

BLOUNTSTOWN, FL (WJHG/WECP) The Blountstown Tigers are the champs of 1A District 3 thanks to a win in the second quarter of a three-way tiebreaker with South Walton and Port St. Joe.

The Tigers hosted and got a bye in the tiebreaker based on the best winning percentage going into week 9 of the season. All three teams finished 3-1 in district play.

So South Walton and Port St. Joe played in the first quarter, with the Sharks getting two rushing touchdowns by Jasmin Thomas and that led the way to a 14-7 Sharks win.

That put them up against the host Tigers, who came out throwing! Quarterback Bryson Horne hit KK Godwin with a 76 strike on Blountstown's first possession, putting the Tigers up 7-0. After they got the ball back, the Tigers scored again on a Horne to Trevin Mathews 61 yard pass and run. After a fumble recovering, the Tigers scored again and went on to win 21-0.

That made Blountstown district champ, and left Port St. Joe as runner up. South Walton was eliminated from playoff contention.

Tigers will host Chipley in the 1A region semifinals next week. Port St. Joe will play at West Gadsden to open the playoffs.
