Rosters for next week's MLB All Star Game were unveiled on Sunday night, featuring one name Panahandle baseball fans will recognize from before his big league fame.
Diamondbacks starting pitcher Patrick Corbin is headed to Washington D.C. for his second appearance in the Midsummer Classic.
Corbin played for coach Jeff Johnson at Chipola in 2009, earning all panhandle conference honors.
This is Corbin's sixth season in the MLB, all of them spent with Arizona. He also made the All Star team in 2013, but this is his best year in the majors, entering the final week before the break with a 3.05 ERA and 140 strikeouts in just 112 innings pitched.
If the second half of the season continues on the pace, Corbin will surpass his previous benchmarks in strikeouts, innings, and ERA.
Corbin is one of four players from Jeff Johnson's two-decade reign to earn All Star honors in their careers. The others are Jose Bautista, Russell Martin, and Adam Duvall.
The All Star Game will be held at Nationals Park on Tuesday July 17th.
