Emerald Coast UGA Club helping Harvey victims

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Everyone has their own plans for college football game days.

The Emerald Coast UGA Club watched every Georgia Bulldogs game at Fishale Taphouse and Grill in Panama City Beach, but Saturday night was different.

The Club asked members to bring dog food and donations to the viewing party for Georgia's game against Appalachian State. Bulldog fans in the panhandle are doing their best to help dogs in and around Houston devastated by Hurricane Harvey.

"We're the Bulldogs. We know that there's a big need in Houston for a lot of everything, but one thing that was ignored is pet food," club president Bill Poteet said. "You have a lot of people in shelters with their pets and there's a real shortage of dog food over there. Being dogs, we decided to collect and have dogs helping dogs."

Although the monetary donations had yet to be tallied as of halftime on Saturday, Poteet says the cash will also go towards purchasing more dog food for the Houston area.
