Gulf Coast sweeps Thanksgiving Classic games

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Gulf Coast men's basketball players didn't return to their homes for the holiday weekend, but they played a pair of games at home, sweeping the competition at the Visit Panama City Beach Thanksgiving Classic.

The Commodores ousted Polk State 60-57 on Thanksgiving, then outlasted Walters State on Saturday in an overtime thriller.

Saturday's game went to overtime tied at 69, thanks to a Quadree Smith bucket in the paint in the closing seconds. Smith posted 20 points and 13 rebounds, while Will Robinson led all scorers with 23 points, but it was Myles McGregor's three pointer with 36 seconds to go that wound up being the game winner.

Gulf Coast aims to improve their 8-1 record Tuesday in Alabama against LB Wallace.
