Mosley volleyball prepares to welcome Rickards in a 6A region quarterfinal

LYNN HAVEN, Fla (WJHG/WECP) - The Mosley volleyball team's getting ready for its first round playoff match.

Mosley's hosting Rickards in the 6A region quarterfinal Wednesday night.

Suffice it to say it's taken a lot of physical and mental strength to get this far in the season for Mosley.

The last two weeks in particular have been tough.

Mosley head coach Michelle Mask and star senior Lauren Mask have been flying back and forth to Baltimore to be with their son and brother Dalton, as he battles a brain tumor.

The 'fins have really pulled together as a team, as evidenced by the emotional five set win over Arnold in the district title match last Thursday.

Some of the credit for holding this team together goes to the assistant coach running the show in Mask's absence, Durand Yangson.

"We've been coaching so long together, since 2008-2009 that we kind of think alike, what we want done on the court and what the girls need to do," Durand Yangson, Mosley assistant volleyball coach said. "So with her not being here, it was a still smooth transition. And we talked day to day online and on Hudle, she watches the film and sends me notes on what she wants me to work on. She's not here but she's still here."

"Oh it's a big deal hosting," Yangson said. "We're trying to stay here in the whole playoffs. We can host all the way to the finals depending on the last team if they were a host or an away team. But if we win Wednesday, we play the winner of Arnold and Wakulla, and if we win then we should host for the regional finals."

That match with Rickards at Mosley set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, coach Mask and senior Lauren Mask are expected to be back for that.
