LYNN HAVEN, Fla (WJHG/WECP) - It's a busy week in Mosley's Redfern Gym.
Mosley volleyball coach Michelle Mask's spending these next three days hosting the Annual Summer Blast Volleyball Camp.
It's a camp held for third through eighth graders.
"A lot of them have been coming to this camp for a couple of years," Mask said. "Almost all of the girls who played for me, they've been to this camp themselves. So it's kind of like a right of passage. It's a tradition. I really highly encourage a lot of my incoming freshman to come to this camp. Then next year they can actually teach the camp."
Athletes are spending these next few days learning the fundamentals of the game; learning how to pass the ball, learning the transition.
This is the sixth year Mask's hosted this camp at Mosley, and she says it's probably the largest one yet with about 70 girls participating.
Which, as she says, is no surprise since the growth of the sport itself has grown.
"Oh absolutely," Mask said. "Volleyball has grown in just leaps and bounds over the last few years. Since I've been here, it's amazing to see how many kids that we have come out for the sport. You know travel ball, we have about 100 girls that play just here locally. And then just to see we've got another 70 that just came out this weekend, or this week's, been great. I have kids that came from Alabama here today."
The camp wraps up Wednesday with a tournament.
