Scovel, Kandler swap roles in Gulf Coast athletic department

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - NewsChannel 7 has learned women's basketball coach Roonie Scovel is handing over the reigns as Gulf Coast athletic director to baseball coach Michael Kandler.

Scovel and Kandler have not officially commented on the swap, but sources within the school have confirmed the move.

The good news for Commodores fans is that the shake up won't affect their teams. The five time national champion coach is still expected lead summer workouts and enter her 21st season as leader of the Lady 'Dores this fall. Kandler is nearing 15 seasons in charge of the baseball program. He's not planning on turning over control of his team either.

Kandler was previously the associate athletic director, so this is simply an administrative change up with the coaches working closely in order to best serve the college and the athletic department.
