What kind of gift are you giving people this holiday season? Did you ever think about giving the "gift of life?"

In this On the Coast Family First report we take a look at blood and organ donations and why it’s important to discuss with your family.

Every two seconds someone in America needs blood, and every five seconds someone needs an organ. You never know when the person in need could be you or a loved one. That's why its and important discussion to bring up with your family.

"Blood can be donated to a number of places such as the Northwest Florida Blood Center or Red Cross, and organ donation is as easy as the stroke of a pen. On your driver’ license, you can designate yourself as a donor."

When someone dies so many organs can be used by others in need.

"The gifts that the donor leaves are tremendous to those waiting. One donor can save the lives of up to seven people with the donation of their lungs, heart, liver, kidneys, and pancreas."

Donating organs and blood can be a touchy subject for some people. That's why the holiday season may be the perfect time to reevaluate if you want to be a donor.

Accidents often increase and blood supplies decrease this time of year, and when it comes to organ donation, consider what it could do for you if you ever needed it.

There truly is no better gift, than the gift of life. Joining us now, we have special guests who are living proof why it’s important to be an organ donor.
