School is almost out for summer, but not quite! They are having to stay focused for a couple more weeks and then they dive into summer break, but do they ever say they're bored with school?

In this Family First report we take a look at what the experts think that really means.

Classrooms from kindergarten to high school are filled with all kinds of personalities. Children are excited, inspired and attentive, but even with so much going on around them they sometimes say they're bored!

Nancy Babin with On the Coast Magazine said, "Contrary to popular belief, the bored child is not always the academically gifted child who is not being challenged. More often than not, the bored student is frustrated because he isn't understanding the material being presented or does not possess the skill that he is being asked to demonstrate."

Parents need to be prepared with a good response when their kids come home saying they're bored.

"You'll want to request a conference with your child's teacher. Assure the teacher that you are not assigning blame to anyone but rather to get his opinion as to what really is going on in the classroom that might prompt a declaration of, I'm bored."

And get ready for some true boredom! Once kids hit summer vacation and their busy school days come to a screeching halt, you can be sure your kids will get bored if you don't keep them busy.

Plan now for day camps and fun events to keep their minds active while they are enjoying a break from school.
