1 Killed, 7 injured in 1-10 Crash in North Okaloosa

HOLT, Fla. One person was killed and 7 others were injured when a Ford Van and a S-U-V collided on Interstate 10 near Holt in Okaloosa County

The Florida Highway Patrol says the late Friday Morning crash happened when the SUV driven by 25-year-old Zachary Hale of Jemison, Ala ran off the highway and into the grassy media. Hale crashed into the side of a van on the opposite side of the Interstate, which was carrying 7 passengers.

Troopers say both vehicles overturned in the crash. One passenger in the van was killed and 6 others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Killed was 21-year-old Rebecca A. DeNardis of Cary, NC. She died shortly after the crash at North Okaloosa Medical Center in Crestview.

The Florida Highway Patrol charged the SUV driver, Zachary Hale of Alabama with DUI Manslaughter, 1 Count of DUI with serious bodily injuries and 6 counts of DUI with various minor injuries.
Hale is being held in the Okaloosa County jail in Crestview
