Panama City Beach - The Deepwater Horizon oil spill kept some tourists away from Panama City Beach this summer. Even though the area was not directly impacted by the oil spill. Many industries in the suffered like fishing and tourism.

But this Labor Day weekend has been bustling with tourists. The Captain Anderson’s Marina today was packed with people sight seeing and fishing.

Matthew Cole, owner of Dockside Gifts at the marina, says this is the busiest he has seen it all summer.

"This is probably the busiest day of fishing we've had since the first week in June. Which is when all the boat's went to work for B.P. and right before they closed the federal water's for fishing," said Cole.

Doug Keach is on vacation with his family and wanted to go fishing while he was in Florida.
He says his family chose Panama City Beach because of it's location.

"First of all we are from Columbus Georgia which is convenient and my son's from Atlanta Georgia, so it is convenient. The weather's been fantastic and it's just a great beach area. We've really enjoyed it," said Keach.

Even though some boat captains tell us that this weekend's tourism did pick up a little bit. It's still not as good as year's past.

"There's been a few more people here, so we're all fortunate for that. It still a little bit slower than what we would normally expect labor day weekend especially on the docks, but every body's happy to have what they can," said Josh Craighead, boat captain.

Since more fishing restrictions have been lifted in the Gulf of Mexico and the red snapper season has been extended fishermen are hoping tourist will come back and charter fishing boats in the fall.
