Bay County - Most people dream of hopping on a plane and just getting away. On Monday, one Panama City Beach man is doing just that. He's about to travel thousands of miles with a friend he just made on the internet.
For the second year in a row, Jet Blue airlines offered the all you can jet pass which is a single ticket that allows travelers to take as many flights as they can during a 31 day period.
For the local man, that journey begins Monday. The two jet setters are both named Steven. Steven Holland works for a marketing company from home in Panama City Beach. Steven Miranda is a photographer from Tampa.
"I was laying on the couch about 2:30 in the morning and I DVR everything so I can watch it when the kids go to bed and I was watching the news and it said Jet Blue does it again. And immediately i was like, 'Okay, I’m going to do it this time," said Steven Holland.
"I saw it on the news that Jet Blue's having a promotion, all you can jet and I basically bought the pass on a whim and was going to go on about four trips on the weekend," said Steven Miranda of Tampa.
At first, Holland says he also planned to only take a couple of trips. But then facebook introduced the two Steven’s and this simple trip turned into an all out expedition.
Steven Holland flies from Panama City Beach to Orlando on Monday. Steven Miranda will leave Tampa and the two will meet in Orlando. But this will be the first time the two have ever met. For now, they are complete strangers going on a 31 day trip around the country together.
"Jet Blue has what they call and all you can jet fan page on Facebook and everybody's out there posting. It's kind of like a fraternal thing now and so everybody was posting and I started looking for people who wanted to share rooms," said Holland. And there he found Steven Miranda.
The two talked by phone and decided to hit the road, or air, for 31 days, visiting as many cities as they could. They will stop in 21 cities and board 70 different planes covering thousands of air miles.
Even with so much of their trip planned, the two Steven’s are leaving room for some spontaneity as well. For most of the nights during their trip, they aren't even sure where they'll be sleeping yet.
You can follow the traveling pair on the trip by visiting www.31daysrunningstrong.com. They say if there's something you've always wanted to see, send them an e-mail and they'll try to take some pictures for you.
Some of their stops include New York City on September 11th, New Orleans, Chicago, San Francisco, Niagara Falls and Las Vegas.
News Channel 7 will periodically check in on their trip and let you know what they've been up to as well.
