A school bus driver in under investigation after dropping a girl off at the wrong bus stop.

It happened last Wednesday on a bus leaving Patterson Elementary School in Panama City.

The girls mother, Jeannie Marie Burkett is very happy she's safe but is still angry with the driver who allegedly left her daughter alone.

When Burkett went to the bus stop to pick up her five year old daughter, Adalyn, a Kindergartner at Patterson Elementary, last Wednesday, she didn't get off the bus.

Her regular bus driver said she never got on and asked for some information over the radio.

Somehow, Adalyn got on the wrong school bus and was dropped off on Mercedes Avenue off of Highway 77, about five miles from home.

She says she told the bus drive that wasn't her stop and he allegedly told her to get off apparently ignoring the big blue bus tag attached to her backpack with her correct bus number and home address.

Adalyn walked a couple blocks before knocking on the door of Nowell Construction Company looking for some help. Owner of the construction company, Vance Nowell, says his sister answered the door to the hysterical little girl.

The Nowell's contacted school officials but Burkett had already notified Panama City Police of her missing daughter.

They located the girl at about 3:45, two hours after she left school and police returned her to her mother.

The bus driver is on paid leave and Burkett says that's not enough. She believes he should loose his job.

Executive Director of Operations for Bay Distrcit Schools, Dr. John Haley says they are performing a thorough investigation to find out exactly what happened. He says they will take the necessary action to make sure something like this never happens again.

Anonymous, you big dummy. How can society expect you to take care of children if you cannot even make a coherent sentence. I went to public school in the 1950s and we at least learned the 4 Rs. Reading, wRiting, aRithmetic, and the RIGHT BUS. Dummy.
