Many Parents Don't Monitor Children's Online Whereabouts

A recent string of arrests involving adults soliciting sex from children online has shed light on the rapidly growing problem, but many parents admit they don't know where their children go when they log onto the Internet.
In the past three years, law enforcement officers have arrested at least 50 people in the area for the sexual exploitation of children, many of those involved on-line sex stings.
Area state prosecutor John Atchison was arrested for trying to fly to Detroit to molest a five-year-old. Apparently he had weeks of internet conversations with authorities who he thought was the girl's mother.
Just days ago police took William Joe Mitchell into custody for running off with a 15-year-old and then dumping her at a DeFuniak springs Wal-Mart.
Investigators say cases like these can be avoided if you talk to your children about on-line safety and monitor where they go on the Internet.
A recent study shows 61 percent of 13 to 17 year-old have a personal profile on social networking sites. One in five teens think it's safe to share personal information online.

While monitoring kids online activity is great advice it has nothing what so ever to do with the John Atchison case. In those cases it is the parents who are selling their own kids!
