Here’s an updated list of state roads, which have been closed because of Hurricane Ivan damage.
In Walton County the Basin Bayou Bridge at Villa Tasso on the north side of Choctawhatchee Bay is closed.
In Okaloosa County, Highway 98 is closed between Destin and Ft. Walton Beach on Okaloosa Island. The four-lane highway was completely washed out by Ivan’s storm surge.
In Santa Rosa County, State Road 191 the Garcon Point Bridge is closed. Also, State Road 399, The Navarre Bridge is also closed.
In Escambia County, The Escambia Bay Bridge on Interstate 10 is closed. Three miles Bridge on Highway 98 is closed, The Bob Sikes Bridge is open to emergency vehicles, on state road 292 the Perdido Key Bridge is closed, Highway 90 is closed between Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties and Business 98, the Bayfront Parkway in Pensacola is closed.
Meanwhile, the local road status in area counties in looking good. In Gadsden, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Jefferson, Leon, Washington and Liberty Counties 100% of the local roads are cleared and passable. It’s 90% in Franklin County and 85% in Walton County. In Bay, Calhoun and Escambia counties each reports 80% of their local roads are cleared and open for traffic. Santa Rosa has 75% open and Okaloosa County checks in with 70% of its local roads open for traffic.
Detours for commercial and passenger traffic are working well, especially around the Pensacola area.
