Phone Service Coming Back On-line Following Hurricane Repairs

BellSouth crews are working overtime to restore telephone service to northwest Florida customers hit by Hurricane Ivan last week.

Since Ivan made landfall a week ago Wednesday, BellSouth has restored service to 121,000 Florida customers whose phone service was knocked out by the storm.

There’s still about 25,000 customer phone lines affected in Bay, Washington, Holmes, Jackson, Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa Counties. That’s about seven percent of the overall lines in the area that are not back in service yet.

To help its customers who have been affected by Ivan stay in touch, BellSouth is offering Call Forwarding, Voice Mail and Memory Call Services Free for 30 days. This will enable a person or business to have their calls forwarded to another number or voice mailbox.

Connection charges for these 30-day free services for storm victims are also being waived. Connection charges for moving a phone to another home or business location due to extensive damage are also being waived.
