Gasoline Supplies Plentiful in Florida

Updated: Fri 4:31 PM, Sep 24, 2004

State officials say Florida’s fuel supplies are in good shape as we face the possibility of another hurricane.

The Department of Environmental Protection says approximately 25 million gallons of fuel were delivered Thursday and Friday, and there should be plenty of gas to meet the needs of people who may be asked to leave their homes.

Colleen Castille, Secretary of the DEP, says the gas situation is looking good.

“This last week has given us an opportunity to refill our supplies at the terminals. We have adequate supplies to handle the increased demands of an evacuation," says Colleen.

Fuel supplies ran short after Hurricane Frances when more than two million evacuees fueled up and ports were closed to shipments due to the rough weather.

Bogus rumors of gas rationing also fueled a run on supply that made the problem even worse.
