Downtowns and Small Towns

Downtown Panama City will get a marketing boost from the state in the next couple of years with the state marketing program called “Downtowns and Small Towns.”

Two other cities were chosen for this statewide pilot program that will help the communities market their historic and cultural attributes. In a one-year study of tourism traits, half of the visitors wanted to visit historic sites during their vacation.

Visit Florida will promote the cities through print media, the Internet, public relations and promotional events. Dave Jackson, the director of the Downtown Improvement Board, says this is a great way to promote something unique this area has to offer.

"Being able to bring in a lot more people and the cultural activities, the historical venues that we have, which is something nobody else in Bay County has, it puts us on the map again, on another venue."

Palatka in northeast Florida and Miami were also chosen to be a part of the Downtowns and Small Towns campaign.
