Hurricanes Mean Waves of Mosquitoes

Mosquito control agencies around Florida are seeing tremendous numbers of the biting insects in the wake of the four hurricanes.

One trap in the Apopka area contained about 2.2 million mosquitoes. It usually could catch “only” tens of thousands in a night.

State agriculture officials say 26 of Florida's 67 counties have asked the state's help in controlling mosquitoes.

State and federal have hired contractors to do aerial spraying in the southern part of Florida, while state aircraft are doing the job here in the Panhandle.
