Veteran Gulf County Lawman Killed in Crash

A Gulf County sheriff's deputy, off duty at the time, was killed shortly after 3 pm Friday afternoon when his vehicle ran off the side of an old wooden bridge.

The mishap happened on County Road 20 near State Road just outside of White City.

Sheriff Michael Hammond says Deputy Terry Carr had been hunting and was driving on the dirt road when he ran off the bridge and hit a pine tree. He died at the scene

Carr was a 20 year law enforcement veteran of the Port St. Joe Police and Gulf County Sheriff's departments.

The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation.
