Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials are looking for an alligator that attacked a dog Saturday afternoon. A new resident to the Deerpoint Lake area says her dog was in the backyard on the deck when the six-foot alligator jumped out of the water, onto the dock, and attempted to swallow the dog. The gator is still swimming free because authorities could not locate him.

Neighbors found the dog dead in the lake hours later. Now, residents are worried that the gator might pose a danger to kids swimming nearby. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials say they should be okay if they use common sense. Never swim in an area where a gator was spotted. Also, it is against the law to feed alligators. If you need to report an aggressive alligator call the FFWCC at 888-404-3922.
