Momsen Is a Week Away From Being Home

After a 10-week maiden voyage, the USS Momsen is nearing its home port in Everett, Washington for the first time.

The trip from Panama City was full of excitement as the brand new guided missile destroyer had to dodge Hurricanes Charley, Frances and Ivan and then storms all the way through the Caribbean.

The Momsen was commissioned in Panama City in late august and then began testing its remote Mine Hunter system in the Gulf of Mexico. The ultra sophisticated system was developed at the Navy Support Activity in Panama City Beach.

It is slated to arrive at its first homeport Everett, Washington on October 14.
