Sex in the Classroom Case Is Resolved

A substitute teacher who had sex with a Bay High student in his classroom won’t be going to jail.

Twenty-four-year-old Cornelius Campbell was originally charged with sexual battery, a felony, after admitting he sex with a 17-year-old female student.

Because the sex was consensual, and the girl was over 16, that charge was later reduced to general battery, a misdemeanor.

Last week, Campbell entered a no contest plea to the battery charge and was placed on a year’s probation, fined and ordered to perform 200 hours of community service.

The case, when it first came to light several months ago, prompted the Bay County School Board to revamp its substitute teacher training policy.
