The man who once headed up the entire U.S. war effort in Iraq has come to Niceville with a new mission, one of providing support for President Bush.
Gen. Franks and several other Republicans stumped at Okaloosa-Walton College in Niceville on Tuesday. He wasted no time in attacking Senator John Kerry in front of a crowd of mostly veterans.
The way one votes in the Congress of the United States of America very clearly reflects whether or not he has respect for the men and women who wear the uniform. Gen. Franks also made clear his position on military action in Iraq.
"We got to stay with this thing in a non-deviating, consistent, hard and direct way not just for today and tomorrow, but for as long as it takes."
This is the second major Bush campaign stop at OWC. Two months ago President Bush spoke at the school. With almost three weeks left till the election, recent polls show President Bush and Senator Kerry neck and neck in the race for the White House, a fact not lost on the Republicans.
Bush supporters hope the Republican vote in northwest Florida can combat the expected Democratic vote from south Florida. Democrats held a "Veterans for Kerry" gathering in Destin after Gen. Franks spoke.
