Okaloosa Deputy Resigns Over Sexual Harassment Allegations

One of Okaloosa County's highest ranking sheriff's deputies has resigned to avoid being fired after an internal investigation accused him of sexual harassment.

Sheriff Charlie Morris says the investigation uncovered evidence that Captain Mike Busby fondled a female deputy in a hotel swimming pool while they were in southwest Florida helping with Hurricane Charley relief efforts.

A sheriff's spokesman says 42-year-old Busby resigned Wednesday in a one-line e-mail. Morris had planned to fire Busby if he did not resign.

The woman declined to file a complaint but told an investigator that Busby had grabbed her inappropriately during a game of “keep away” and continued doing it until she became frustrated and left the pool.

Other deputies who were there supported her allegation.
