Storm Spawns Waterspout

Eyewitnesses say it was a waterspout that came onshore Wednesday morning in the Long Beach area of Front Beach Rd.

There was quite a bit of scattered damage and Panama City Beach police were forced to close a half mile stretch of the highway for several hours.

Eyewitnesses said, “The skies grew angry, the seas whipped up, the wind, howling, and the result was all this debris.”

Steel beams from a beachfront condominium on Front Beach Road came crashing down from the top floor. Some hit the ground while others landed on cars and trucks. Luckily, no one was hurt.

The scattered debris apparently came from several high-rise condo construction sites.

Other twisters were sighted Wednesday at Grayton Beach in south Walton, southwest of Bonifay in Holmes County and near Dothan.
