A service starts Thursday that's intended to make Florida roads safer this holiday season.
The “Tow to Go'' program aims to keep drunken drivers off the road. It offers people free rides home, plus a free tow for their car if they drink too much at parties, bars or restaurants.
The service is provided by the AAAA Auto Club South and Budweiser. It's operating around the clock through New Year's Day.
Forty-eight people were killed on Florida roads over the Thanksgiving holiday last year. Nearly a third of those deaths were alcohol-related.
Police say there are no strings attached to the program. Its main goal is to save lives.
The number to call for “Tow to Go'' is 1-800-AAA-HELP. AAA will dispatch a tow truck and give the driver and the vehicle a free ride home.
