A Thursday morning fire has destroyed a Millville area home, but the man inside is thankful to be alive.
Chris Moss awoke to the crackling sounds of a fire burning in his house around 4:30 a.m. Thanksgiving morning. He was able to escape the burning home with only the night clothes on his back.
The house at 241 Olive Street was listed as a total loss. Luckily, there were no injuries, but his pet dog did not survive.
Panama City firefighters and the state Fire Marshall's Office investigated and determined the cause of the blaze was a short in an electric oven.
Friends and neighbors are trying to help Moss by collecting clothing for him. If you can help you are asked to call 785-5883.
