One person died in a single vehicle traffic accident on Highway 98 at Phillips Inlet early Sunday morning.

The fatality, a 38-year-old man believed to be from Jacksonville, apparently lost control of his pick-up truck, swerved on and off the road and then rolled over several times.

His identity is being withheld until relatives are notified.

The Florida Highway Patrol says he was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle as it overturned.

The mishap happened just after midnight Sunday morning at the west end of the Phillips Inlet bridge at the entrance to Camp Helen.

The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation. Initial indications are the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel.
