The top officer in the U.S. Marine Corps says the military needs to involve civilian government agencies in combat operations to win wars politically as well as militarily.
Marine Commandant Gen. Michael Hagee was one of the featured speakers at the 9th Annual Expeditionary Warfare Conference on Panama City Beach.
Hagee told attendees it's not the military's job to deliver political victories, saying that can be done only with help from agencies like the State Department and the Treasury Department.
Top brass and defense contractors are discussing weapons systems at this year's conference, with a lot of attention on Seabasing Technology. Capt. Vito Jimenez of the Naval Surface Warfare Center says that's the concept of maintaining weapons and troops off shore from the battle region.
"Most people in the industry get together and share their views and all the things they're doing, systems that are coming and what we're doing with the Navy and Marine Corps in the future.”
The conference is sponsored by the National Defense Industrial Association. It’s being held at Marriott’s Bay Point Resort at Panama City Beach.
